Feb 20 - Savannah State - baseball team will open the 2008 season by hosting the HBCU Classic. The Tigers will welcome North Carolina Central, Chicago State and Norfolk State to the city for the round robin tournament which takes place February 22-24. All games will be played at Tiger Field.

 

Feb 20 - Florida A&M - The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference announced the 2008 baseball prediction with Florida A&M with predicted to finish fifth.

 

Feb 20 - Delaware State - Hornets baseball team is set for their 2008 season opener at home against the University of Maine this weekend at Soldier Field.  The four game series was to begin on Friday, February 22 but expected bad weather conditions have pushed game one back a day. 

 

Feb 20 - Norfolk State baseball team has been picked to finish fourth in the MEAC in a preseason poll of coaches and sports information directors, the league announced Thursday.
 

Feb 20 - Norfolk State -  baseball team opens its 2008 season Friday in the HBCU Baseball Classic at Savannah State University.

 

Feb 17 - CSTV MEAC Preview - It's still Bethune-Cookman's domain until further notice. With last year's MEAC tourney title, the Wildcats have now won nine of the last 10 conference titles and gone to the NCAA tournament seven of the previous eight seasons.

baseball coach Claudell Clark announced Wednesday the signing of three players in the early recruiting period who will play for the Spartans beginning in 2008-09. They are first baseman Patrick Hall (Virginia Beach, Va./Ocean Lakes HS), third baseman Jermaine Berry (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond River HS) and right-handed pitcher Rocco DeLauri (Chesapeake, Va./Delaware Tech).

 

Dec. 2 - Bethune Cookman - signs 11players to National Letter of Intent.

 

Dec. 2 - North Carolina A&T - baseball coach Keith Shumate has completed his early signings for the 2009 season.  Shumate announced the signing of 11 players to suit up for the Aggies in 2009.

 

Nov. 26 - Florida A&M - baseball alum Andre Dawson gets another shot at the MLB Hall of Fame.  Dawson file.

 

Nov. 22 - Maryland Eastern Shore - will be holding a Winter High School Baseball Showcase for baseball players ages 13-18 on December 8, 9, 15 and 16. The instructional showcase will provide all participants the opportunity to display their talents in front of different college coaches and receive advice on how to improve their game in all aspects.

athletic department announced Tuesday afternoon that Husain Mahmoud will remain the head coach of CSU’s baseball team. Feb. 3 - MLB -announced that the Major League Baseball Urban Youth Academy will host its first Urban Invitational Baseball Tournament from February 29 - March 2. Two Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Bethune-Cookman University (Daytona Beach, FL) and Southern University (Baton Rouge, LA), will face off against collegiate baseball powerhouses UCLA and USC.

Texas Wesleyan claimed its first RRAC baseball title in a hard-fought championship game against Wiley on Friday night in Cedar Hill, Texas. Earlier in the day, both teams advanced with victories over HBU and HTU. TWU and Wiley will advance to the NAIA Region VI Championship.

Oct. 18 - Shaw Univ. - Shaw's board of trustees voted unanimously late last week to reinstate the school's baseball program, which had been canceled in July, spokeswoman Terry Spicer confirmed Tuesday afternoon. "Baseball is officially reinstated at Shaw Univ.," said Spicer, who added that Shaw president Clarence Newsome took the lead in bringing the program back.

 

Oct. 15 - Shaw Univ. - The Board of Trustees voted unanimously to reinstate baseball, according to an announcement made today by Dr. Clarence G. Newsome, President of Shaw University.

 

Oct. 11 - Shaw Univ.Baseball program in limbo. 
School canceled sport in July, but players remain hopeful it will be reinstated.

Sept 3 - West Virginia State - alum David Smith went 1 for 4 with two walks in New Hampshire (AA- Blue Jays) thirteen inning 1-0 win over Portland.

 

Sept 2 - West Virginia State - alum David Smith went 1 for 5 with a run scored and a rbi in New Hampshire (AA- Blue Jays) 8-7 win over Portland.
